Description

This 5-hour interactive online course gives an overview of Ex Situ Remediation Technologies for Cleanup of Contaminated Soils. It also describes containment technologies (such as landfill cap) and confined disposal facilities.  It is designed for scientists and environmental/civil engineers who are directly or indirectly involved in the remediation of contaminated soil, sediment and/or sludge. This course describes in detail the fundamental concepts of different ex situ remediation treatments. The treatments are separated in 5 groups as follows:

Learning Objectives

This course is designed to enable the remediation specialist to make informed decisions on ex situ remediation treatment selection in terms of cost, environment and time constraints.

After completing this course, you will:

  • Be familiar with ex situ remediation technologies for cleanup of contaminated soils.
  • Understand the differences between ex situ biological treatment and ex situ physical/chemical treatment.
  • Understand ex situ thermal treatment.
  • Be able to describe in detail the basic principles of each one of the ex situ treatment groups and have information on costs, advantages and disadvantages of using certain types of cleanup technology.
  • Know how to select the appropriate technology, taking into account factors Read More
