This course will be discontinued on 02/06/2024
Carbon emissions are increasingly taking center stage at the forefront of sustainability. While concepts like "net zero energy" are gaining mainstream traction and help account for the design/reuse of facility's' energy utilization, they do not holistically account for their long-term operational carbon footprints. Often, these footprints represent the largest consequential greenhouse gas emissions associated with the building(s) over their useful life.
This interactive online course will introduce the concept of designing for operational carbon tracking and reduction utilizing a case study project - a multi-building urban college campus in metro-Boston. This project was initiated by students and faculty of the school in 2013. This course will introduce team organization, methodology, an overview of the three "Scopes", and strategies for ongoing reductions towards the goal of carbon neutrality. This course will be useful for anyone interested in single or multi-building projects where carbon tracking, reduction, and off-setting are a priority.
