This 4-hour course is formatted in 3 lessons with the exam given at the end of each lesson. Each lesson must be passed with a score of 70% or higher before being allowed to proceed to the next lesson. The lessons are listed below:
Lesson 1: 2014 NEC Changes - Chapter 4: Equipment for General Use
This course provides coverage of significant changes in the 2014 National Electrical Code®. With every new edition of the NEC, some of the changes include new requirements to sections, while some of the changes include entirely new articles. Some changes are revisions to existing requirements while others are deletions to some existing requirements. Chapter 4 deals with equipment for general use.
Lesson 2: Texas State Laws & Rules for Electricians
In today's business world, it is easy to become so wrapped up in your everyday work that you forget some of the basic rules and regulations that govern your profession. This interactive online course discusses Title 8, Occupations Code, Chapter 1305 of the Texas Statutes, and 16 Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 73 of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. These two codes contain important information regarding the regulation, licensing, and conduct standards for Texas Electricians. By reviewing this information on a regular basis, you will stay abreast of changes and amendments to the Texas State Laws and Rules as they pertain to this profession.
Lesson 3: NFPA 70E - 2012 Safety-Related Maintenance and Requirements for Special Equipment
NFPA 70E for work practices is designed to help workers avoid injury from a release of electrical energy, and help to prevent or minimize exposure to all widely recognized electrical hazards. This interactive course is intended for use by owners, contractors, employers, safety directors and trainers, managers, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) buyers, electrically qualified workers and unqualified employees who need protection against electrical hazards in the workplace.
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
Describe the NEC® code for safety requirements on flexible cords andcable tags
Identify the NEC® code for safe installation of switch controlledlighting loads
Identify the change to the placement of GFCI devices for appliances
Explain the new safety requirements for the installation of ductheaters with limited access
Identify the various professions and sub-professions regulated by the Texas laws and rules for electricians, and the responsibilities and limitations of each license.
Describe licensing requirements and enforcement
Discuss regulations of electricians by local governments
Explain actions that may lead to license denial and disciplinary actions
Define the general purpose and scope of NFPA® 70E
Discuss the major changes in Chapter 2 and 3 in the 2012 NFPA® 70E edition
Explain safety-related maintenance requirements for electrical equipment and installations in workplaces
Describe safety requirements for special equipment
