The Community Rating System (CRS) is a voluntary program of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). It began in 1990 as a way to recognize and encourage floodplain management efforts performed by a community that went above and beyond the minimum requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program. This 1-hour interactive online course is a step-by-step guide to producing a CRS Outreach Project that will earn credit under the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System.
This course includes a test at the end.
At the conclusion of this course, you will:
- Know how to research, write, and edit three of the four types of outreach projects that will earn credits under the Community Rating System's Activity 330, including
- outreach projects for the entire community (OPC)
- outreach projects to floodplain properties (OPF)
- additional outreach projects (OPA).
The fourth type of project under CRS is the public information program strategy (OPS). The OPS is not covered in this course.
Since students are taking this course via the Internet, the author assumes they have access to the web and a basic understanding of how to navigate it.
