Geothermal Heat Pumps
This 2-hour interactive online course is an overview of geothermal heat pump systems. The course covers the basics of how a heat pump works and the specific differences between an air source heat pump and a geothermal heat pump. The benefits of using geothermal are discussed as well as the costs including installation costs, energy cost, and maintenance costs. Issues such as how to select the most appropriate antifreeze solution are discussed along with the merits of each type of loop system likely to be used in a geothermal application.
There is a test included at the end of this course to assess the student''s understanding of the material. You must have Flash Player Version 7 or higher to view some parts of this course. We also recommend you view this course in Internet Explorer.
The objective of this course is to familiarize you with the basic operation of a geothermal heat pump system. After taking this course, you will have an understanding of:
- How heat pumps work
- The appropriate performance standards for geothermal heating systems
- The advantages and disadvantages of the various antifreeze solutions available
- The types of loop systems used in geothermal heating systems
- The installation, energy, and maintenance costs for geothermal systems
- AEC Complete
- Construction & Trades

This was a good, interesting course - but there needs to be an easy way to print the contents, like can be done for most RedVector courses I have taken.
Toughest course so far.

I was looking for more details on the design and sizing of the ground loop system. I've heard from folk operating systems in northern climates that standard assumption often lead to undersized ground loop. Overall the course is pretty good from a basic understanding of GSHP systems.
