RedVector author Richard Kelso, P.E., NCEE, Ph.D., has shown a tremendous amount of passion for energy conservation and sustainability in his work in the field, as well as in his time in the classroom.

After serving as its facilities manager, Richard joined the faculty of the College of Architecture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he taught for 35 years until retiring in 2011. While he was a professor, he also received his PhD from Loughborough University in 2003.

Richard co-founded Kelso-Regen Associates, a consulting engineering practice, which he managed for 26 years before retiring in 2000. As a consulting engineer, he handled over 2000 projects designing systems for buildings across the country.

In 2000, Richard also received the Distinguished Service Award by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Richard has been active in ASHRAE at local, regional and societal levels. He served a 3 year term on their board of directors and was honored with the rank of Fellow and the Distinguished Service award.

Richard is considered an expert in the automated commissioning of HVAC systems, the energy performance of buildings, and water vapor condensation in buildings. Richard was also honored with Professor Emeritus of Architecture for his service at UT Knoxville.
