Linux was started in 1991 by a Finnish student, Linus Torvalds. It was to be created as a free OS kernel. The program was written specifically for the hardware that Torvalds was using and independent of an operating system because he wanted to use the functions of his new PC with an 80386 processor. In our course, Linux Fundamentals, the student will be introduced to Linux. They will learn the history of Linux and what it was originally intended for, as well as what Linux is comprised of. The student will learn how to work in Linux, including how to navigate and issue commands in the Linux platform. This course is paired with demos on Root Enable Disable, Linux Navigation, and Compression.
