Roof insulation doesn't get much respect. Out of sight and out of mind describes the approach of many commercial building owners and facility managers. If the roof system doesn't leak, then all is assumed good. But roof insulation affects building performance and operation in many different ways. Most roofs on commercial buildings - as many as 90% - consist of low-slope designs with rigid insulation installed above a concrete or steel deck and directly beneath an exposed roofing membrane. In these systems, the insulation contributes to three important building functions: 1) moderating thermal and moisture movement, 2) assuring prompt and effective storm water drainage, and 3) serving as a working platform for periodic equipment maintenance. When roof insulation is designed and installed to meet these functions, operating costs are reduced, occupant comfort and safety is increased, and the service life of the entire building is optimized. This webinar will provide the background and tools to help building professionals select the best roof insulation system for any situation - starting with preliminary design and field installation and through to ongoing roof asset management.
