The historical purpose of street design since the industrial revolution has been to move as much motorized traffic as quickly as possible from one point to another. Of course, based on this optic the focus of street design has been the automobile. Now, times have changed and there is a renewed interest for the health and welfare of our communities to convert our automobile-centered streets into livable spaces to support the growth of our communities. Through this course, engineers, planners, architects, contractors and practitioners within the A/E/C industry will learn the principles for making livable streets by designing for walkability and use of their surrounding communities.
