To effectively manage power costs, plant operators must have an understanding of electric rate structures and how plant operations may impact power costs. This 3-hour interactive online course looks at how electric utilities structure their rates, the various components that make up rates, and how to calculate power bills using several typical commercial rate structures.
Utility companies are comprised of three functional areas: generation, transmission, and distribution. In each of these areas, there are both fixed and variable costs that must be recovered through the electric rates. Utilities have devised clever, unique, and sometimes odd methods to recover these costs. This course also looks at a few of the common methodologies used to recover costs, including demand rates, hours-use-of-demand, time-of-use, seasonal, and real time pricing rates.
