2-hour interactive online course provides an overview of flooding, floodplain management, and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Floodplain management is a process followed to develop the best mix of strategies and tools to reduce flood losses and protect natural resources and their functions. The first unit of this course describes the more common types of floods and floodplains as well as the evolution of strategies and tools for floodplain management. The second unit of this course provides an introduction to the National Flood Insurance Program, including its purpose and how it works. It describes the roles of the state and local partners, how communities participate, and their responsibilities to remain eligible to participate in the program.
There will be a test included at the end of this course.
