A multimeter is a versatile electrical test instrument which combines the functions of a voltmeter, ammeter, and ohmmeter into one device. This 1-hour interactive online course is the second in a series about digital multimeters. This installment covers some of the application issues with digital multimeters and begins with the basic measurements of volts, ohms, and amps. A common digital multimeter feature, the diode tester, is reviewed and the methods to determine the condition of diodes and transistors are reviewed.
The course shows how to test fuses in both single-phase and three-phase applications and how to verify that a utility meter base is wired correctly. Procedures to test residential wiring using three simple test procedures are explained as well as how to test the electrical parameters of single-phase and three-phase motors.
After taking this course you will:
- Know how to make basic electrical measurements such as volts, ohms, and amps.
- Know how to test diodes and transistors.
- Know how to test fuses in single-phase and three-phase applications.
- Know how to test a utility meter base for correct wiring.
- Have learned how to check residential wiring by taking three simple voltage readings at the receptacle.
- Know how to troubleshoot electrical problems in single-phase and three-phase motors.
The course includes a multiple-choice test to gage your understanding of the material.
