This course covers the codes, standards, and federal requirements for electrical systems and communication systems. The electrical and communication requirements are discussed separately in this course. The first half of the course concentrates on electrical requirements. It begins with a discussion of the various codes and standards that affect electrical systems and then discusses the requirements for the various components of the electrical systems. It also includes a section on sustainability, which highlights energy efficiency in relation to the codes and standards. The second half of the course discusses different communication systems and how they are affected by the codes and standards. These systems include telephones, computers, security, background music, and television systems, among others. The sustainability of communication systems is discussed as well.
Throughout the course, accessibility-related requirements are also mentioned. These include relevant regulations in the Americans with Disabilities Act (also known as the ADA) standards and comparable ICC/ANSI A117.1 accessibility standard requirements. The last part of the course contains an electrical and communication checklist.
