In 2015, there were 42,000+ HazMat violations concerning the transport of Hazardous Materials. Violations included missing placards on vehicles, lack of hazard markings on packages, and errors on shipping papers. Federal Regulation 49 CFR 172.704 (a)(1) requires that all hazmat employees shall be provided general awareness/familiarization training in which hazardous materials are prepared or transported. In addition, the employee shall be able to recognize and identify hazardous materials consistent with the hazard communication standard.
