Electricity and electrical circuits are fundamental to modern technology. To diagnose, troubleshoot, and optimize these systems, the electrical characteristics of the circuits need to be measured and evaluated.
A multimeter can be used in a wide variety of circumstances because it can measure voltage, current, and resistance.
However, there are a number of other dedicated instruments that go beyond the capabilities of the multimeter or increase the safety or convenience of making a measurement. These include the voltage detector, clamp ammeter, megohmmeter, and oscilloscope. This course will describe the function of a multimeter and these other useful dedicated electrical meters.
