Uncontrolled hazardous energy is a potential cause of workplace accidents. This course covers hazardous energy and how to control it by isolating equipment using lockout/tagout procedures.
Topic I: Hazardous Energy
• List types of energy sources.
• Define the term "hazardous energy."
• Compare active energy and residual energy.
• Discuss the purpose and scope of OSHA's lockout/tagout standards.
Topic II: Energy Control Programs
• Explain what an energy control program is.
• Compare lockout procedures and tagout procedures.
• Describe the characteristics of lockout devices and tagout devices.
• Describe employee training and inspections necessary for an energy control program.
Topic III: Application
• State the basic steps of applying energy controls.
• Identify the basic steps for releasing equipment from lockout/tagout.
• Discuss special situations that can occur during lockout/tagout.
