Leadership is not the private reserve of a few charismatic men and women, it is a process that ordinary people use when they are bringing forth the best from themselves and others. If you are a leader, or aspire to be one, this series of courses will assist you in developing your capacity to guide others to places they have never been before. The series covers the five practices of exemplary leadership - model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart.
This 2-hour interactive online course is the second in the series and assists you with the first of the five practices of exemplary leadership, "Model the Way". In order to become a leader, the necessary first step is to find your voice. You also must serve as a role model for what constituents are expected to be, and this course demonstrates how you can do that with helpful real-world examples.
This course series is adopted from the highly respected book, The Leadership Challenge, written by James Kouzes and Barry Posner. This is the third edition of this book, which is grounded in extensive research and uses interviews with all kinds of leaders from both public and private organizations.
At the conclusion of this course, you will:
- Know more about the first of the five practices of exemplary leadership, "Model the Way".
- Find your voice by clarifying your values and expressing yourself
- Understand your own beliefs by studying the leaders that you most respect
- Set an example for your constituents to follow
- Build and affirm shared values
- Use stories, analogies and metaphors to teach virtues
- Learn to choose your words and questions deliberately
