Carelessness and improper shortcuts are two major causes of industrial accidents and injuries. Safety is especially important for those who work around electricity. Along with an understanding of basic electrical safety, workers frequently exposed to live electrical equipment need to have an understanding of what an arc flash is, how it happens, and how it can be prevented.
The first topic of this course discusses the basic concepts of electrical shock, such as factors affecting a shock’s severity, the physical effects of shock, and the hazards associated with working near electrical equipment. The next topic describes the dangers of arc flash and arc blast, some potential causes of arc flashes, and how approach boundaries are a vital part of working in areas surrounding potential arc flash hazards.

Protection plays a vital role in keeping workers safe at work. The final topic of the course discusses several methods used to ensure safety of not only workers but also the physical plant.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
  • Identify and define the terms associated with arc flash hazards
