Since its development in the early 20th century, the curtainwall system has become the dominate exterior wall configuration used in commercial and institutional buildings. During this time, the technology behind curtainwall systems also has evolved to include an ever-expanding variety of options to expand functionality and improve performance. As a result, today’s curtainwall systems offer superior performance and flexibility while reducing installation and maintenance costs. And this evolution continues, with new technologies to improve curtainwall performance and value introduced almost constantly.

To help the building designer and manager take advantage of this ongoing evolution of curtainwall systems, this webinar will review the latest technological advances and provide tools to integrate these technologies into the design and management of commercial building exteriors. First, the webinar will provide a brief overview of the history of the curtainwall concept to show how new market demands have led to the deployment of new technologies to improve performance. Next, the webinar will provide an in-depth look at the most recent technologies being introduced for commercial curtainwalls, with an emphasis on the advantages and challenges of these technologies. Finally, the webinar will offer a step-by-step approach to implementing these latest technologies in new curtainwall design and existing curtainwall retrofit and management.

SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT: James Hoff

Jim Hoff is an experienced executive and consultant in the building materials industry. Jim currently serves as President of TEGNOS Research, Inc. a consulting organization dedicated to expanding understanding of the building envelope. Since the founding of TEGNOS, Dr. Hoff has provided a wide variety of strategic and technical consulting services to dozens of governmental, non-profit and corporate organizations, and recent clients have included the U.S. Department of Energy, the U. S. EPA, building material trade associations, building materials manufacturers, building envelope designers and private equity firms. In addition to his industry research and consulting activity, Dr. Hoff also serves as the instructor for the successful "Commercial Roofing Boot Camp" course co-sponsored by Building Envelope Magazine. Jim has published numerous papers addressing a variety of technical and business topics germane to the building envelope industry and is a frequent speaker at building envelope, sustainability, and energy efficiency conferences.
