This 6-hour online course reviews the Army Corps of Engineers Engineering and Design - Groundwater Hydrology Manual. It provides guidance to engineers who are responsible for, or simply interested in, groundwater-related projects. This basic course covers such topics as subsurface distribution, groundwater forces, confined/unconfined aquifers, hydraulic conductivity, storage, transmissivity, general flow equations, flow nets, pumping wells, porosity, specific yield, groundwater studies, field investigation methods, computer modeling, and surface water/ground water interactions.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end of each section. The majority of this course is presented in a PDF file and must be downloaded. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to take this course.
Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, you will have a working knowledge of:

  • groundwater flow equations
  • groundwater flow regime descriptions
  • aquifer characteristics and terminology
  • aquifer characterization techniques
  • pumping wells
  • monitoring wells
  • contaminant transport
  • interaction between surface water and groundwater
  • groundwater modeling
