Have you produced projects that did not meet you or your client’s expectations, despite having a skilled team and rigid project management plan? This could have been because quality was not accounted for early on in the project. The purpose of this course is to show you methods and tools you can use to implement and improve the quality of your projects.

You will learn:
  • How to build quality into your project
  • How to estimate the annual costs of a substandard project to determine the how much you should spend on meeting quality expectations How to work within quality assurance programs and manage the quality control process
  • How to review the quality of your project, allowing you to improve the quality of your project And
  • How to prepare for design changes that can unexpectedly show up
Course Objectives
By the end of this course you should be able to:
  • List factors that could affect how a client defines a project’s quality.
  • Describe how quality can be implemented into your project at the start of the project using the five ways of how to build quality in a project.
  • Estimate the cost of maintaining quality on your project by calculating the substandard quality of project using direct and indirect costs.
  • Explain the purpose of quality assurance programs.
  • Compare and contrast the four different quality control programs: quality assurance, quality control, quality improvement, and total quality management. 
  • Affirm the purpose of the seven different reviews in the quality control process. Provide the six ways that will help you improve the quality of your projects.
  • Identify components of quality control checklists for design drawings, design calculations, and design specifications.
  • Explain why management would want to use the Lead Design Management and Lean Construction to approach a project and how it can be implemented.
SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT: Michael D'Alessandro
Michael D'Alessandro Photo
Mr. D'Alessandro has been involved with the A/E Design and Construction Industry for more than 20 years. Prior to joining PSMJ Resources, Inc., he was with Parsons Infrastructure and Technology Group as a Principal Project Manager. His responsibilities included project management, proposal preparation, department management, and human resources management.

His extensive project management experience includes engineering, procurement, ranging in capital value from $1 million to $55 million. He has also been responsible for management of fast-track multi-discipline projects involving equity placement for both domestic and international facilities.

During his tenure as a Project/Client Manager, he successfully completed capital projects in 18 different countries. He has worked with some of the largest global companies by consistently demonstrating the ability to accomplish project budget and schedule objectives with a high degree of client satisfaction.

As a consultant, he has provided project management training since 1990 and has been involved in strategic planning for design/build initiatives and work process improvements for small project environments. He has also served as a Quality Council member, leading efforts to measure client satisfaction and improve design productivity.

Michael has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering. He is also certified by the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Michael is also a registered professional engineer in a number of states and is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.
