Hydraulic Accumulators - An Introduction

Hydraulic Accumulators - An Introduction

2 hrs. Online Course

Hydraulic accumulators are used in hydraulic circuits for energy storage, shock absorbtion and pressure maintenance. Probably their most common application is to reduce the pump requirements in the system.

This 2-hour interactive online course describes the various types of accumulators, and the reasons that one may be preferred over the other. Some of the available accessories are described. In applying accumulators, a strong emphasis is placed on safety and conformance to OSHA regulations.

Finally, a method of sizing accumulators is presented, that is believed by the author to be simpler, yet more complete than methods presented in most catalogues and handbooks which are readily available.

This course includes a test at the end.
Course Objectives

On completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe three (3) general applications for hydraulic accumulators.
  • Name three (3) types of accumulators.
  • Describe the advantages and disadvantages of the three (3) types of accumulators.
  • Describe some accessories and options commonly available for hydraulic accumulators.
  • Understand how to conform to OSHA lockout regulations in applying accumulators.
  • Be able to accurately size an accumulator for a simple, cycling machine circuit in an energy storage application.
