This 2-hour interactive online course is the third in a series of courses on electric distribution transformers. In this course, we review the application of single-phase transformers in both single-phase installations and three-phase installations. Other factors such as the available fault current at the secondary of a transformer are reviewed as well as how ferroresonance impacts the operation of distribution transformers.

The course includes a multiple-choice test at the end.

The objectives of this course are to help you understand how to apply distribution transformers in both single-phase and three-phase applications. After completing this course, you will:

  • Understand how to apply a single-phase transformer in a single-phase application.
  • Understand how to apply a single-phase transformer in a three-phase application.
  • Understand the application issues for delta-delta, delta-wye, wye-delta, and wye-wye transformer banks.
  • Understand the special considerations when applying open wye- open delta and open delta- open delta banks.
  • Understand when a wye-zig zag or a Scott T transformer bank might be used.
  • Know how to calculate the available fault current at the secondary of a distribution transformer.
