This online, interactive course gives you the principles and practices for designing new buildings and redesigning existing frameworks. You'll learn to maximize operational energy savings; improve comfort, health, and safety of occupants and visitors; and limit detrimental effects on the environment.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Articulate Green Building principles and practices as they apply to Commercial Buildings
  • Recognize how to raise expectations for the facility’s performance.
  • Describe practices that improve the capital budgeting design and construction practices, thus promoting investments that make economic and environmental sense.
  • Discuss partnerships in the design and construction process around environmental and economic performance goals.
  • Identify money-saving techniques through reduced energy and material expenditures, waste disposal costs, and utility bills.
  • List ways to improve the comfort, health and well-being of building occupants and public visitors.
  • Name methods to design buildings with improved performance that can be operated and maintained within the limits of existing resources.

Andrew Manzini is Vice President, National Green Building, Inc. He is also a Florida Certified General Contractor, NAHB Certified Green Professional, and NAHB National Green Building Standard Verifier. Andy’s previous experience includes executive positions at Architect/Engineering firms in the fossil and nuclear power industry. He is also a management consultant, instructional designer and published author of three management books and dozens of articles. His education includes a BA and MA from Boston University and post-graduate work at Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Management. He is skilled in improving productivity, achieving significant operational improvement through effective teamwork, planning and management.
