Planning an Olympic Games is a difficult and complicated process that takes years. Potential host cities are required to submit proposals years before the games, and the winning proposal is awarded seven years before the start of the Games. For the 2012 Olympics, London submitted a proposal that encompassed 15,000 pages, provided detailed design and program for all of the planned events, and focused on the resulting legacy of the games after they were completed. This presentation looks at the selection process, the designs for the games, how they changed in the years leading up to the games, the focus on economic/cultural/environmental sustainability, and the impact the games of had on revitalizing East London.
