This 3-hour online course discusses the basics of computing open-channel flow using the US Army Corps of Engineers program HEC-RAS. This program is available free from the Corps of Engineers and is a very powerful tool. It can be used to model water surface profiles in channels, through bridges and also model the impacts of culverts. This course provides step-by-step instructions in setting up the necessary files and operating the program. It also includes an example. In order to assist the student, this course also contains numerous graphics of windows which are part of the program. This course is intended for engineers with little experience in computing water surface profiles or who have never used the HEC-RAS program. HEC-RAS is essentially the replacement for the former COE program HEC-2.There will be a multiple-choice quiz at the end of this course.
