Stairs and ladders are the means by which we gain access to places at heights. When used improperly, both stairs and ladders can be a source of falls, a leading cause of injury and death in construction. There are dozens of different styles and configurations of ladders and stairs and only the most commonly used in construction will be covered in this lesson. As with any tool or piece of equipment the user must read the manufacturer’s instructions as it provides specific safety precautions and describes limitations of use.
