2008 NEC Motor Circuits & OSHA Electrical Safety

2008 NEC Motor Circuits & OSHA Electrical Safety

4 hrs. Online Course

Level: Fundamental

Item#: RV-10058

SME: David Chitester

This 4-hour interactive online course looks at two important topics in the electrical industry.

The first part presents a review of Article 430 of the 2008 National Electrical Code®. The lesson explains how to determine the appropriate conductor sizes and protection required for motor branch circuits, feeder circuits, and motor overload protection.  This lesson has a general motor sizing example that explains each step in designing a motor circuit per the NEC®.

The second part looks closely at OSHA’s electrical standards. This lesson examines the main causes of different types of hazards and details precautions for preventing accidents. It looks specifically at the requirements of 29 CFR 1926, Subpart K – which covers the design characteristics of safe systems for use when installing and using electrical systems.
Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course you should be able to:

  • Discuss how to size: Motor branch circuit conductors, Motor branch circuit protective devices, Motor feeder circuit conductors, Motor feeder circuit protective devices, and Motor overload protection
  • Describe four types of injuries that can result from contact with electricity
  • Name at least three warning signs that an electrical hazard may exist
  • List at least five electrical hazards that may exist on a construction site
  • Describe at least three methods for protection from electrical hazards
