08/18/2026: LIVE INTERACTIVE WEBINAR, Exterior Insulation Finish Systems (EIFS): Designing for Energy Efficiency, Resilience, and Sustainability, Tuesday, August 18, 2026, 12pm-1pm Eastern

1 hr. Webinar

Level: Fundamental

Item#: RV-W081826

SME: James Hoff

Exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS) are a general class of non-load bearing building cladding systems that provide exterior walls with an insulated, water-resistant, finished surface in an integrated composite material system.
EIFS has been in use since the 1960s and has experienced significant growth, currently accounting for over 50% of all wall systems installed on U. S. commercial buildings. This growth has been driven by several factors, including installation economies, thermal efficiency, design flexibility, and sustainable use. Due to these important features, 72% of U. S. construction professionals now prioritize the use of EIFS to achieve energy-efficient, sustainable buildings.
Although EIFS is now widely used in commercial construction, this wall system has experienced problems in the past due to moisture intrusion and physical damage, which can negatively impact occupant health and safety. These problems can be overcome by effective design and installation techniques, but it is vitally important that building designers and managers are fully aware of these challenges and can address them successfully.

This webinar will provide building professionals with the tools needed to effectively integrate EIFS into commercial building design and management. Starting with a brief history of EIFS, the webinar will identify the key functional characteristics of EIFS and the critical design and installation issues that will help assure building occupant health and safety. The webinar also will identify important design and material selection practices that will help assure that the completed EIFS installation will provide the best possible results in terms of durability, energy-efficiency, aesthetic appearance, and sustainability.

Note: This is a live webinar delivered via GoToWebinar. Session instructions will be emailed to you 24-48 hours prior to the webinar and the morning of the webinar. If you have not received your instructions for any reason, please call Customer Support (1-866-546-1212) the day of the event. Webinars are live and interactive. Students will have the ability to interact with and ask questions of the presenter directly.
Course Objectives

At the end of this webinar, you will be able to:

  1. Understand the historical development of EIFS and how past challenges can guide future success with this unique wall system.
  2. Identify the key components of EIFS and determine how each component must be integrated into a properly functioning wall system that can support the health and safety of building occupants.
  3. Identify material and design options that can upgrade wall system performance.
  4. Identify critical material interfaces within EIFS and determine how these interfaces must be designed to avoid unwanted problems with moisture and other wall system damage that can negatively impact occupant health and safety.
  5. Select the best EIFS for a wide variety of building uses and climatic conditions.
