This online interactive course addresses the proper roofing and re-roofing construction, as well as various test requirements and testing protocols for roofing and re-roofing of both discontinuous and continuous roof systems for various types of roof coverings in High Velocity Hurricane Zones (HVHZ). It is divided into the following 3 sections:
  • Administration, Permitting, Plan/Permit Review and Enforcement/Inspections
  • Pertinent roofing testing protocols and roofing application standards of a discontinuous (water-shedding) tiled roof only
  • Pertinent roofing testing protocols and roofing application standards of a continuous (waterproofing or low sloped) roof
Course Objectives
At the completion of this course, you will be able to:
  • Identify the specifics of the contracted roof project (building materials, components and the required approvals from Miami-Dade County – Building Code Compliance Office, Product Control Division)
  • Describe how a specific Roof System should be installed
  • Identify and explain the submittal process to the Building Department Having Jurisdiction
  • Distinguish between the different sections of the HVHZ Uniform Permit Application
