What is CMAR?
How should you choose the right construction manager for your project? This interactive online course will provide an overview of at-risk Construction Management (sometimes called CMAR and CM/GC). After reviewing how this system was created in the early 1980s, we will examine some of the key structural, procurement and contractual components of the process. We will also review some of the unique legal issues associated with this process (e.g., liability for value engineering, subcontractor non-performance).

Michael C. Loulakis is a senior shareholder in the construction law firm of Wickwire Gavin, P.C. where he represents domestic and international clients on construction-related matters. His extensive and diverse background in the design-build process allows him to provide comprehensive legal representation to clients on design-build projects around the world, including advising owners on project delivery systems, contract drafting, claims administration, and dispute resolution. Mr. Loulakis has extensive experience on international design-build and EPC projects, particularly in the power generation and telecommunications sectors. He has been lead counsel on projects in Pakistan, India, Guatemala, Mexico, as well as Europe, the Middle East, Nigeria and South Africa.
Mr. Loulakis' background in the design-build process has also allowed him to represent clients on design-build projects around the world and in the power, telecommunications, health care, public facility, and transportation sectors of the construction industry. His role on these projects ranges from advising owners about project delivery systems to contract drafting, claims administration, and dispute resolution. Mr. Loulakis also provides strategic planning advice to contractors and design professionals who are interested in participating in the design-build contracting arena.
He is a national speaker on design-build and the author of numerous publications, including a highly acclaimed interactive CD-ROM program entitled Construction Project Delivery Systems: Evaluating the Owner's Alternatives. A member of the DBIA's Board of Directors and former Chairman of DBIA's Manual of Practice Subcommittee, Mr. Loulakis had principal responsibility for drafting DBIA's Design-Build Contracting Guide and its family of contract documents.
