FEMA Letters of Map Amendment/Revision
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the user will be able to:
- Use the data provided in the Flood Insurance Study to make accurate determinations of flood risk of property.
- Accurately locate a property on a Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) or a Flood Hazard Floodway Boundary Map (FHFB)
- Determine the restrictions to development on the property (Base Flood Elevations, floodway location, etc).
- Explain the types of Letters of Map Change to apply for, how they are filled out, and the expected timeframe for approval and costs.
SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT: Bill Tingle, P.G., CFM, CPESC
Mr. Tingle is a Professional Geologist and a Certified Floodplain Manager. He holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Geography and Earth Sciences. He has 15 years experience in floodplain management at the local government level and is the Chairman of the North Carolina Association of Floodplain Managers. Bill has worked closely with FEMA staff on various floodplain issues and is a member of the Association of State Floodplain Managers where he serves on a variety of committees. He has authored numerous papers on floodplain management.
