The growing environmental consciousness of the 1980''s led to a revival of traditional construction systems, including clay and straw. Clay and straw sometimes work together. When building with light-clay, the constructor uses straw as the principal element and uses liquid clay as a coating and binder. Valued for their practicality and insulating qualities, the natural building movement is rediscovering these building materials that have been around forever. Their place in construction has evolved in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries as technical advances progress.
This 3-hour interactive online course examines the histories of light clay and straw-bale, their construction methods, structural specifications, and environmental benefits. This course is part of a series concerning the systems and materials associated with Alternative Construction: Contemporary Natural Building Methods.
This course includes a multiple-choice test at the end of each section.
