The State of Florida has passed several laws pertaining to surveyors and mappers, which must be followed in their work. This interactive online course discusses these laws and recent changes to these standards, and is intended to provide one of the two required portions of the continuing education requirements (CEU's) for Professional Land Surveyors and Mappers. This course discusses Chapter 177: Land Boundaries, Chapter 472: Land Surveying and Mapping, FL Administrative Code 5J-17.001 – 5J-17.048, Chapter 161: Parts I – IV, and Chapter 455.01 – 455.32: Business and Professional Regulation.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, you will be able to perform your job more efficiently and accurately, assured that your work is up to date with the latest code specifications. Specifically, you will be able to:
  • Discuss the specifics of FL Statutes Chapter 177, Land Boundaries including the platting of lands, mapping of the Mean High Water Line, and the recovery and maintenance of the original survey monuments
  • Explain the components of FL Statutes Chapter 472, such as the new role of the Department of Agriculture, native language, armed forces, Pro Bono work, disclosure, address of record, mediation, fees, exam requirements, and discipline rules of the Board
  • Identify updates to FL Administrative Code 5J-17 (formerly 61G17), such as the omission of the essay examination requirement, changes to the grading procedures of the exam, and the alteration of the numbering to update regulatory objectives and clarify minimum technical standards
  • Describe the four parts of Chapter 161, including regulation of coastal construction, beach and shore preservation, coastal zone protection, and the Oceans and Coastal Resources Act
  • Recall the updates to FL Statutes Chapter 455 including the authority of the Department and additions regarding disciplinary guidelines
