Liquid process piping systems are used in many different industries to convey liquids to, from and between pumping, storage and treatment units.  Proper design and construction of liquid process piping is necessary to ensure the integrity of a piping system during its service lifetime.  This 2-hour interactive online course is the second in a series on general piping design including materials of construction, design pressure, sizing, stress analysis, flange, gaskets, and bolting materials, pipe identification, piping supports, and testing and flushing.  Familiarity with the standards and recommendations for design of pressure piping will prepare the designer to make informed decisions throughout the design process.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, you will be able to:
  • Discuss the various aspects of liquid process piping design, such as materials of construction, design pressure considerations, and sizing for piping systems
  • Describe the process of stress analysis on a piping system
  • Identify the different types of flanges, gaskets, and bolting materials and discuss how they are used in different systems
  • Explain the process of pipe identification and importance of careful designing of piping support systems
  • Describe the different types of leak tests and when system flushing is necessary

David Chitester Photo
David Chitester is a licensed P.E. in Michigan and Florida has over 35 years of experience. He graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1974. He also has an M.B.A that he received from Northern Michigan University in 1978. 
 
David Chitester began his career with Bechtel Power and Blount Brothers where he gained field construction experience on projects ranging from $150 million to $500 million. For more than 30 years, he has provided services essential to a balanced mix of public and private sector clients. Mr. Chitester's expertise has been applied to multi-million dollar hotels and resorts, industrial process plants, power generating facilities, office and commercial buildings. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and his background includes a number of years on active construction sites.
