Welcome to the final installment of Red Vector’s Data Center Video Series. Today we’ll be looking into where Data Center design, construction, operation, and utilization is likely headed in the coming years. Hopefully you have already been able to take advantage of Red Vector’s other Data Center Video Series installments, including our segments on location siting and selection, utility and architectural design, Mechanical and Electrical design, and best practices for facility Operations and Maintenance. If you haven’t yet taken advantage of these great titles, you should definitely check them out, as they provide essential background information for a more robust understanding of all facets of data center conceptualization, design, construction, and operation. But right now, we’re going to try to peer into the future a bit to see where this industry is likely headed. To best forecast where we are headed, though, it’s most often beneficial to understand how we’ve already gotten where we are.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of the course, you will be able to:
  • Summarize and identify the impacts and changes in how data is transferred
  • List and select the technologies that are improving data center efficiencies
  • Describe solid state drives and their application with data centers
  • Identify and describe the potential future of data centers
SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT: Greg Scheurich
Greg has earned degrees in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He also holds an MBA with a concentration in Finance from the University of Texas in Dallas. He has also completed additional graduate program work towards an MS in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Texas in Austin.
 
Greg has extensive MEP experience, having been involved in the design and construction of critical facilities for 15 years for MCI, Verizon, Sprint, and EDS. He has been with the Corps of Engineers for over 5 years, currently working as the Deputy Chief of the Engineering Branch, Ft. Worth District, and previously as the Ft. Worth District Sustainable Design Program Manager.
 
Greg is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas, a LEED accredited Professional, and a Certified Energy Manager. He has delivered a number of industry papers and presentations on topics such as Sustainability, Energy Efficiency, and Engineering Economics at various conferences. He has guest lectured at SMU and the University of Texas at Arlington, and was a board member for the United States Green Building Council Program Working Group for Greenbuild.
