Did you know the schedule plays a central role in construction project management? Developing an initial schedule is a powerful tool that you can use in managing various aspects of a project, including time, resources, production, and cost. This interactive online course concentrates on using the schedule to manage the time required to execute the construction processes. It begins by considering the project as a whole, determining how to shorten the overall project schedule, and looking at the cost trade‐offs of expediting the project. It then focuses on current or upcoming parts of the project with the objective of managing the project components more effectively.

Course Objectives
By the end of of this course, you will be able to:
  • Describe how to use the schedule to manage the time required to execute the construction processes and how to manage components of the project more effectively
  • Explain how to consider the project as a whole, determining how to shorten the overall project schedule, and looking at the cost trade‐offs of expediting the project
  • Identify how time affects both the cost of activities and the general and administrative costs of the project
  • Understand how to measure, report, and manage time invested in the project

I think some of the definitions and topics could be explained in more detail, such as the critical paths. Also, I think marking the locations on the charts or explaining where they came from when explaining something would make it more clear as well.

I feel like the course over complicated a critical aspect of project management - or it just explained it in ways that I've not encountered before

I feel like the course over complicated a critical aspect of project management - or it just explained it in ways that I've not encountered before. For the discussion of changing duration of critical items and the effect of doing so, animations may have made this easier to understand. There were also grammatical errors in the checkpoint questions and in the final exam.
