Human trafficking is a serious crime that can occur in workplaces and industries across the United States, including construction, manufacturing, and subcontracted labor. Traffickers often use force, fraud, or coercion to exploit vulnerable individuals, making trafficking difficult to identify. This course provides employees and supervisors with the knowledge needed to recognize the signs of human trafficking, understand reporting responsibilities, and respond appropriately to potential concerns. Participants will learn the differences between trafficking, smuggling, and labor violations, identify common workplace indicators, and explore key requirements under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) and Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). By the end of this course, learners will be better prepared to identify potential trafficking situations and support efforts to prevent exploitation in the workplace.
Course Objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Define human trafficking and explain the differences between trafficking, smuggling, and labor violations.
  • Describe why construction, manufacturing, and subcontracted labor are at high risk for human trafficking.
  • Identify common job site red flags for human trafficking, detect warning signs, and recognize behavioral indicators related to human trafficking.
  • Explain how supervisors and employees can prevent, identify, and respond to human trafficking, and how to encourage early reporting without fear of retaliation.
  • Analyze the key implications of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA), Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), and the financial penalties and consequences that can result from an organization’s non-compliance.
