Our reliance on electricity has serious implications for environmental quality and resource conservation. Lighting consumes 25 to 30 percent of the energy used in commercial buildings. This adds heat to a building’s interior and increases energy use for air conditioning. In this course we will review basic principles of system design and the various sources of power. We’ll also explore the design process, system components, and end-point devices.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course you will be able to:

  • Define the basic principles to design safe electrical systems
  • Describe the sources that are available to produce energy-efficient power
  • Explain the design process for developing adequate, dependable electrical systems
  • Discuss the various aspects of circuit design for safe, multi-use residential and commercial spaces
  • Identify the components that comprise easily accessible, maintainable, expandable carrier systems
  • List the user-friendly end point devices that contribute to a comfortable, manageable electrical system

Corky Binggeli, ASIID Photo
CORKY BINGGELI, ASID, is a principal at Corky Binggeli Interior Design in Boston and has taught at the Boston Architectural Center and at Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Corky Binggeli Interior Design was founded in 1991, with a focus on commercial projects. Corky studied both architecture and interior design and earned her MID at the Boston Architectural Center after earning a BA in British Civilization at Barnard College, and worked with architectural firms as a designer and space planner for over 10 years. She has developed a reputation for careful attention to her client’s needs and priorities, and excellent communication skills. Her dynamic designs, which are as functional as they are beautiful, have earned her many long-term and repeat clients.
