Urban Drainage – Design of Storm Water Detention and Retention Facilities

Urban Drainage – Design of Storm Water Detention and Retention Facilities

2 hrs. Online Course

Level: Advanced

Item#: RV-10934AW

SME: Thomas Rose

This course has been discontinued.

This course will cover the information presented in Chapter 8 of the Hydraulic Engineering Circular by examining the procedures for the design of storm water detention and retention facilities in conjunction with highway design. This course provides a comprehensive and practical guide for the design of storm drainage systems associated with transportation facilities. Design guidance is provided for storm drainage systems which collect, convey, and discharge storm water flowing within and along the highway right-of-way. Methods and procedures are given for the hydraulic design of storm drainage systems.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, you should be able to:
 • Design a storm water management system with a peak runoff rate to be less than the pre-development rate
 • Control flooding, soil erosion, sedimentation, and pollution
 • Establish the existing runoff volume, either based on pre-development conditions or local government regulations, and
 • Calculate compensation for the additional runoff volume within the storm water system.
