Building blocks and elements are the components that make up a building or site, and if these are not accessible, the building or site is not accessible. This course will cover the basic building blocks and elements used to create accessible buildings and sites for everyone. These small, and sometimes overlooked, elements can make or break a project. These elements include, but are not limited to: turning space, clearances, protruding objects, and operable parts. Think of these as the foundation on which you will build your accessible project. When we pay attention to the "small" things, the "big" ones fall into place.

1. List at least 4 components that are included in accessible building blocks and elements, according to the 2010 ADA Standards.

2. Demonstrate the requirements for clear floor or ground space required in accessible buildings and sites.

3. Identify which types of accessible reach ranges exist, and summarize their requirements.

4. Illustrate how accessible building blocks and elements, when properly applied, lead to accessible buildings and sites.
