At the conclusion of this course, you will be able to:

Compare the concepts of passive and active fire protection systems.
- Describe the concept of compartmentation as part of a passive fire protection system.
- Define various types of rated assemblies and their use within a building.
- Discuss the difference between fire and smoke barriers versus fire and smoke partitions.
- Explain the separation required by the codes of different areas and/or rooms within a building based on their use.
- Explain the separation of various parts of a means of egress as required by the codes.
- Identify the requirements for openings in rated walls including opening protectives and through-penetrations.
- Discuss the use of tested assemblies and rated materials.
- Describe how sustainable materials can affect the composition of rated assemblies.
