Concrete tile is one of the most durable roofing materials available. This 2-hour interactive online course covers a variety of topics related to concrete tile roofs, such as underlayment requirements, valley metals and fasteners. It also covers some of the advantages of tile roofs including thermal advantages, seismic advantages and resistance to hail.

This course includes a test at the end.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course, you will understand:

  • Underlayment requirements for tile roofs
  • Requirements for fasteners for tile roofs
  • The use of valley metals for tile roofs
  • Why tile roofs have thermal advantages over other materials
  • The advantages tile has over other materials in earthquake areas and in areas subject to severe hail storms
  • Why cut dust needs to be removed
  • What causes efflorescence and mildew and algae growth on concrete tiles
SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT: Mark Peterson, P.E., M.ASCE
Mark Peterson, P.E., M.ASCE Photo
Mr. Peterson has a BS and MS from Montana State University and more than 28 years of engineering experience in hydrology and hydraulics. He is currently a senior engineer with Kadrmas, Lee and Jackson and has worked extensively in both the private sector and in state government. He is licensed as a PE in MN, MT, ND, SD and WY. He was chairman of a three-person committee that re-wrote the Hydraulics Manual for the Montana Department of Transportation and authored the storm water regulations for subdivisions in Montana. He also teaches a two-day course on Introduction to Detention Pond Design for the American Society of Civil Engineers throughout the U.S.
