This interactive online course presents principles used in the analysis of road vehicles traveling on our roads and highways. This course focuses on the dynamics of vehicle motion and how it governs the design of the geometry of streets and highways. Topics that will be covered include an introduction to dynamics, vehicle traction and resistance, engine-generated traction, vehicle acceleration, analysis of braking, and stopping distance.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

Describe the fundamental principles of motion in terms of vehicle and road safety
Describe the principles of the dynamics of road vehicles
Analyze and perform calculations on elements of the dynamics of road vehicles for safe traveling on our roads and highways
Describe how the components of a road vehicle safely interact with the roadway
Describe how road vehicle dynamics governs the geometry of streets and highways to achieve the safe and efficient movement of people and goods on roadways.

SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT: Kwabena Ofosu Ph.D., P.E., PTOE

Kwabena Ofosu currently serves as Community Development Engineer in Titusville, Florida. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Division of Engineering, Computer Programming and Technology, Valencia College in Orlando, Florida, where he teaches undergraduate courses in Statistics and Probability for Engineers, Engineering Mechanics, and computer applications for engineers. He earned his Bachelor’s degree with Honors in Civil Engineering from the University of Science and Technology, in Ghana. He earned his Master’s degree and PhD, both in Civil Engineering from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. His research areas include bridge engineering, transportation asset management, and artificial intelligence.
