Parts standardization has been essential to the industrial revolution. Given the importance of electric motors throughout industry and the wide range of electric motor types, technologies, and applications, it is easy to understand the need for standardized motor categorization and manufacturing methods. Many of the characteristics of modern motors are included in a nameplate attached to the motor frame. In this course, the numerous bits of often coded information that are included on motor nameplates are explained. Motor enclosure and frame standardization is also discussed.
