Buildings account for 76% of all the electricity consumed in the U.S. With that much energy being consumed; there are certainly some opportunities for improvements in operational efficiency. In managing the energy consumption of a building there are two goals, one is to provide and maintain the comfort of the occupants, and one is to minimize the amount of energy, and therefore money, consumed in the process. This interactive online course will cover some of the terminology and skills involved in basic building energy management.
Course Objectives

  • Explain the difference between primary electric meters and submeters 
  • Describe how to read an electric meter 
  • Describe how to set, read and check mechanical and digital timeclocks
SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT: Jay Scheldorf
Jay is a Chemical Engineer with a PhD from the University of Idaho. After graduating school, he worked for UOP, commissioning and troubleshooting oil refinery processes around the world. He was a founding partner at Pacific Simulation. Pacific Simulation provided simulation software, services and simulation-based training to the pulp and paper industry. Jay also spent time as a control engineer at Ahlstrom, working primarily on Kamyr digesters. At Convergence Training he developed and supervised the production of hundreds of pulp and paper related animated computer-based training modules, as well as variety of general technical and safety related modules.
