This presentation will introduce the BREEAM green building rating system to the North American market. Founded in the UK in 1990, BREEAM is the world's longest established sustainable design rating system and is the basis for most of the other green building rating systems used around the globe, including LEED. Its holistic approach considers water, wellbeing, pollution, transport, materials, waste, ecology, and operations - all with the the end goal of recognizing leadership in these key areas and raising awareness of these attributes amongst owners, occupants, and designers. Recently, BREEAM has started vying for market share within North America by strategically aligning with organizations like Delos - the purveyors of WELL. This presentation will entail the history of the standard, scope, fees, flexibility and applicability as a viable option for reference whether creating a sustainability plan and/or seeking reputable third-party recognition.
